Or more accurately, since I really hate London, "Harry Potter, baby!"

I've been meaning to post this for a while and since I have plans for posts for every day up to July, I thought I'd better do this one before I got side-tracked yet again.

It was my sister's 30th birthday on the 7th and we celebrated first by going to Rockcliffe Hall Spa, where we had a very relaxing day of mud baths, cake and wine. I had an Indian Head massage and then fun exploring the spa while my sister and her BFF finished up with their treatments. I haven't had a really good massage in years (with [info]ditchwitchbitch in Oklahoma), but this one was lovely and she managed to do my whole back as well as my head so I certainly got my money's worth.

On Tuesday we went down to London and were lucky with the weather, because it was the one gorgeous day in a week of rain. We walked from our hotel to Buckingham Palace and then did some shopping, before heading out to dinner and Les Miserables. I'd never seen it before and only knew the barest outline of the plot, so I was pleasantly surprised. It's a fantastic musical. I cried my eyes out and I loved every minute of it.

On Wednesday we went to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, which was the thing I've been looking forward to for months. If you're a fan of Harry Potter and ever get the chance to go, do. It was absolutely incredible and they go out of their way to make the whole experience magical for you.

I won't give away too much in case anyone is going, but there are a few photos under the cut.

It's my sister's 30th birthday on Monday, so I'm off to spend the weekend at a spa and then I'm taking her to London on Tuesday to see Les Miserable - her favourite musical - and then to the Harry Potter Studio Tour on Wednesday. I'm so excited!

I'm hoping to get some of the fic I've been writing finished while I'm away. Yes I do have three Avengers fics on the go at present. I'm also planning on taking advantage of my sister saying she wanted to see the Avengers, to go a third time. \o/

I have a lot of feelings about The Avengers. So many in fact, this is the longest review of a film I've ever done. My last record was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, so you.

Today I got to see The Avengers. Tomorrow I am going to see it again. Tomorrow night I will write some form of coherent review. Until then I only have two things to say.

Eleven years ago, while I was gleefully watching The West Wing, there appeared on screen an FBI agent named Mike Casper, who in a brief five minute period, managed to become my favourite recurring character.

So yes, I am probably a little bit in love with Clark Gregg right now and I am certainly in love with Phil Coulson. I can't wait for Thursday and The Avengers!

I was doing so well at the start of the year and I've failed to keep up with updating like I wanted to these past couple of months. That's going to change now, since I have a busy few weeks planned and there will be lots of updates.

So Psych has reached the end of its 6th season.
Overall it was a vast improvement on Season 5. There isn't an episode I wouldn't watch again. It didn't exactly end the way I hoped it would. I really want Juliet to find out about Shawn, because I don't like that she's dating someone who is lying to her every single day. They need to address it and deal with what happens next. That said, what actually happened wasn't at all what I was expecting. I really hope the aftermath is something that they go into properly next year.

Community continues to be the best thing on TV.
Troy and Abed's break-up and reunion were heartbreaking and adorable in turns. Jeff and Annie are adorable and the evolution of their relationship and how close they're growing is making me so happy. As is Troy's love for Britta. The last episode was amazing.

I have been catching up with Gossip Girl.
I stopped watching Gossip Girl just a few episodes into season 3, but my Tumblr has been full of Dan/Blair recently, so I decided to buy myself seasons 3 and 4 and catch-up with what I missed. In general I hate it and everyone in it - especially Serena, omg - but now half-way through season 4 I have finally hopped on board the Dan/Blair train. They're incredibly cute together.

The Avengers is only a week away. This time next week I'll be in the cinema watching it. Time is moving too slowly. I would appreciate it if people would stop putting spoilers in their fic tags though. Surely that's bad form. I'm hoping I'll be able to finish my own fic before it gets jossed next week.

Who wants to talk to me about how awesome Phil is? If you haven't seen the full version of this, you're missing out on bamfy awesomeness in the extreme

Life stuff in a separate update.

Today was my first trip to Weight Watchers in about 6 weeks. They've moved the time and it kind of messes things up for me, but I wanted to go this week because last Friday was my one year anniversary of getting down to my target weight and I wanted to see if I'd managed to stay at a healthy weight for a whole year, which I've never done for years.

Happily, I made it! I'm 2lbs less than I was this time last year in fact, which is another little bonus. I got a little charm for my keyring to say congratulations and I'm feeling quite pleased with myself right now.

In other news, Shawn moves in on Saturday and his room is now free of all my junk - though I'm not sure how I managed it. I have thrown away a lot of crap, which is always a good feeling. I've rearranged my room, which will take some getting used to, but is so much warmer, I'm glad I did it. And I've completely redecorated the living room - I had a very busy weekend - and I'll post some photos at some point. I can't get over how much brighter it is now. It's beautiful. I also painted half of my bedroom - the other half will be done eventually.

I've got the day off today since this is the last weekend free from stress before Shawn moves in. I've spent my morning cleaning out the spare room for him. I'm about 75% done and I've gotten rid of a lot of stuff. I've no idea where the rest of it is going to go though.

I found hundreds of photos and I really want to go through them all. There's a lot of me at school that it's quite odd to see. My perception of myself then, compared to the way I see myself in the photos is totally different. It's a shame that as a teenager you can't see everything you have going for you.

My great-aunt's funeral is tomorrow in Newcastle, so I'll be going up for the day. I just wish it was under better circumstances, since it's my mum's birthday on Tuesday.

My back isn't as bad as it was, but it's still aching almost constantly. I tried taking the pills I was prescribed but they make me tired, dizzy and gave me terrible nightmares, so I felt even worse when I was taking them. I went back to work on Thursday, which was probably stupid but I felt guilty about leaving my colleagues to do my work since my route is one of the two busiest on the railway and therefore my inbox is always full.

Everything's set now for Shawn to move in on the 17th of March. I'm still a little nervous about it, but I know it's a good thing and it will help with a lot of stuff. He's very excited at least.

I've also got everything planned for my sister's 30th birthday in May, which is a relief, and I've made a start on booking things for my holiday in September with [info]ditchwitchbitch. I have my flights booked and all the hotels in Italy are sorted. I'm excited now I know it's actually happening.

I'll be back to posting more this week, including a new top 5 as soon as I work out work to do next. Any suggestions?

This week it has mostly been snowing. I've walked in the snow, I've fallen down in the snow, I've watched amy bunnies play in the snow. Mostly, I'm over the snow and it needs to go away and be spring already.

I am loving my new laptop and its ability to hold a charge, so I don't constantly have to have it plugged in. I'm going to spend the weekend investigating what it can do and making sure I have all my applications so I can write and make icons (Community and Suits on both counts, for anyone who cares about that kind of thing.

My mum is coming to visit on Sunday, weather permitting to make up for not getting here last week. I was going to go and see The Muppets, but the weather is off-putting so I'm going next week with some friends after work instead.

The landlady also agreed that Shawn could move in, so that'll be happening on March 17th. Big new phase, but I think it'll work out and it'll certainly help with my plans for the future. Yes, I have plans. Who'd have thought it. First on the list is - pay off debt, so the extra money every month will help with that.

So with the weekend stretching out in front of me and Valentine's Day on the horizon, would anyone like a fic? Give me a prompt and a pairing and I'll see what I can do.

Woe
Last night I set my laptop down and went to put the kettle on. When I got back 20 seconds later and picked up my laptop, the screen part fell off. It's completely broken in two. Tomorrow I'm taking it to hopefully get fixed, but it's going to cost at least £50 (the 'diagnosis' fee). This means I'll be without internet probably over the weekend. How will I survive? What did people do before the internet? Read books?

Right now I have the laptop hooked up to the TV, which is actually pretty awesome. Everything's huge. I may play The Sims just to see what it looks like. I kind of want to make graphics too.

My mum is coming tomorrow so at least that's something to look forward to. I want her to watch the new Sherlock, but I also want to show her Suits. We'll only have time for one. Oh, decisions, decisions.

I did actually watch the Suits pilot again this week, to introduce my new housemate - Shawn - to it. He's taking the spare room in March which will give us all some spare cash, now [info]hils is staying in the UK. I have been educating Shawn in good TV for months now. We've done Community (which he loves), Arrested Development, Spaced and Pushing Daisies. He's enjoyed everything, so at least he has good taste. He loved the Suits pilot (Harvey and Mike have an excellent dynamic, don't you know? I tried to rein in my exclamations of "omgyestheyresoinlove!" Whether I will be able to contain it indefinitely remains to be seen) and is watching the rest when they air.

And finally, because it makes me happy and will never not be awesome )

I know I was supposed to write my reviews of Sherlock this weekend, but I as I fell head over heels in love with Suits, I decided to finish watching the first season of that instead.

In fact I love it so much I'm watching it for the third time, right now. General incoherent squee below. )

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

We can't usually afford to do much in a given month regardless but I'll gladly save any money we would have spent to help this cause. Megaupload was just the beginning. If we don't make our voices heard now the internet will soon change and it won't be for the better.

I still have to do reviews of episodes 2 & 3 of Sherlock, which will hopefully happen over the weekend. I was sick on Monday so I watched The Reichenbach Fall again and I don't think it's spoiling my review to say it's the best thing that's going to be on TV all year - possibly even until the next season of Sherlock, whenever that happens to come along.

In the mean time, I have started watching Suits, which is filling the void left by Community's benching and Psych's hiatus. Spoilers )

I’ve seen the odd comment here and there, following A Scandal in Belgravia, about Steven Moffat and his treatment of woman and how you're a bad person and a worse woman if you like it. Those comments have made me back quickly away before I exploded with rage, but they got me thinking and today, finally, it spilled out into this.

No spoilers. My own opinions. You may disagree. That's sort of the point. )

Apparently I'm in quite a ranty mood today. I wrote an epic livejournal post at lunchtime about TV and women and most of you would probably hate it. I doubt I'm going to post it because as tired as I am of all the bullshit, I'm more tired of complaining about things all the time. So maybe I'll just write them occasionally and keep them on my computer to look back on when I'm feeling particularly pissed off.

What I was meant to be writing at the time was a review of the second Sherlock episode, which I adored. Since I've lost my train of thought regarding it now, maybe I'll watch it again, then try to write something coherent.

ETA: Or I'll just rewrite it until I'm happy and post it anyway.
